Advertisers are very clever strategists. Whenever you see a homewares advertisement featured in a magazine or online, it is supposed to bring to mind images of gloriously happy, smiling family members all enjoying a group activity. For example, there used to be a series of ads from a well known homeware supplier who like to feature a couple of guys who just happened to ‘work together’ in an out of town store. They were really amusing skits and would involve the older chap seeming slightly dense and the younger one absolutely the senior in terms of common sense, knowledge and downright usefulness. The activities or lack of them in their case, served to allow us to witness the rescuing of a pretty poor situation by the use of brand new homewares to replace the grotty, worn out ones that the hapless oldie had been struggling with. The products were always beautiful, shiny and absolutely everything the modern home and kitchen would benefit from. It might be a new ultra tough frying or sauteeing pan, or a dining service; any kind of kitchen utensil or implement. Even the hadest, ad resistant chappie couldn’t fail to be impressed by how much better life appeared when they used the proper tools and utensils for the job!
