Robert the Bruce

King
Bannockburn Scottish (Light) Side
Available only with complete set

Robert the Bruce King of Scots and driven by his own destiny, Robert the Bruce dedicated his life to freeing his beloved Scotland from the oppressive Plantagenet rule. For Bruce, Bannockburn was a personal success even before a blow was struck: the Scottish army that gathered there, in defiance of the English might, was evidence of his own unique style as mediator and peacemaker between the Clans and the Scottish nobility, for centuries divided by their own history. At last, they stood united against the real enemy, ready to face their greatest ever test.

Robert the Bruce was not only a great king but an inspirational leader. Not for him the heavy metal armour which was to prove the downfall of many an English knight on the day of battle as they struggled in the marshy peatbogs of the land between the River Forth and the Bannock Burn. Instead, he chose to fight in light chainmail with a gold cloth surcoat emblazoned with the lion rampant. This gave him greater freedom and manoeuvrability to use his favoured weapon - the battle-axe.
After Bannockburn, Bruce became the First Knight in all Christendom.
