Elizabeth de Burgh

Queen
Bannockburn Scottish (Light) Side
Available only with complete set

Elizabeth de Burgh The spirited daughter of King Edward's friend, the Anglo-Saxon Earl of Ulster, the Lady Elizabeth recoiled from the savageries perpetrated on the Scots and, against all her own interests, threw in her lot with The Bruce whom she eventually married.

On Bruce's first major defeat at the Battle of Methven, immediately after his coronation, she, his daughter and sister were sent off northwards for safety. They were meant to go to the care of another sister, the Queen of Norway, but were betrayed at Tain in Ross by the Earl of Ross and handed over to the English.
Elizabeth was held prisoner for eight years in grievous conditions and only ransomed after Bannockburn in exchange for captured high-born English nobles. In all that time, her love for Bruce remained true and steadfast.
