I have just returned home from one of the most special experiences of my life – a winter, in fact a Christmas, cruise to scandinavia.  The weather was obviously desperately cold and snow falls managed to keep up the magic so that we didn’t actually notice that we were possibly suffering from frostbite half the time.  The sheer cleanliness and beauty of the mountainous terrain was too breathtaking to cause any worry about the rest of our being.

I was able to go ashore on organised excursions and visit the most wonderful little churches on one hand and the majesty of huge stone cathedals on the other.  We did have to hear all about traumatic fires that devastated much of each town in a relatively short period of their histroy   I was struggling to work out whether anything at all existed between the Vikings and the first world war.  There was not much history to fill that gap, but the renewed architecture was something to behold.  So in essence, a gift of a cruise was a fantastic gift for someone over middle agedness!
